The Art of The Order of Odd-Fish: Glass Art

Stained Glass Sefino
by Kim Tobash and the young actors of the Mary Poppins Broadway tour (Aida, Bryce, Chris, Justin, Kirrilee, and Abby)

I received this stupendous stained-glass Sefino when I met the talented young actors in the Broadway touring production of Mary Poppins. It’s been proudly hanging in my window ever since. Sefino is delightfully outraged here, and dressed to the nines, as he should be. The newspaper (“Wild roach gone mad?”), with a tied-up Sefino on the front page, is ingenious. If I ever feel frustrated that not enough people have read Odd-Fish, I take one look at this and cheer up immeasurably. Clearly, the right people have read Odd-Fish.

by members of Kim Tobash’s class

Here’s two shrinky-dinks of Colonel Korsakov, also created by the cast of Mary Poppins. To the left, the sedate, stately exterior of Colonel Korsakov, a splendid figure of a soldier in full military dress; and to the right, a peek at Korsakov’s oracular digestion. (And an exclusive quote!)

Vivid. Touching. Slightly terrifying! Awesome!

Aunt Lily Slaps Ken Kiang and Ostrich
by members of Kim Tobash’s class

More irresistible shrinky-dink art from the Janes and Michaels of Mary Poppins. On the left, the scene where Aunt Lily rediscovers her knightly courage, and slaps a diminutive Ken Kiang. I like the way she’s prancing joyfully up to Ken to slap him, and he’s flinging his arms out in protest. On the right, one of the loyal Odd-Fish ostriches. (I noticed some pretty fierce claws on that ostrich. I wouldn’t mess with it.)

by members of Kim Tobash’s class

The last shrinky-dink art from Kim Tobash’s class: the moment that Mr. Cavendish’s head bursts out of the Inconvenience and starts flying around the Dust Creek Cafe. Great composition and facial expression, and I love the way the quotation is worked into the background. “Oh sweet freedom! Oh glorious rapture! I’m a flying head! Look at me! No one can stop me! I’m alive, alive, alive!”
