I had a great time at the American Library Association annual conference this year! I was invited to speak at the “It’s A Mystery to Me” panel with fellows authors Mindy Mejia, Amber & Danielle Brown, Spencer Quinn, and Lori Rader-Day, moderated by Susan Maguire. Instead, I got the star of Bride of the Tornado—a bitter fellow whose last job was in 1996’s Twister—to speak a few words on my book’s behalf. Thanks to Chris Norborg for helping out. I walked around the conference dressed up as a tornado, and ran into many old friends. I got pictures with my old author friend Laini Taylor (whom I met when she wrote one of the first reviews of The Order of Odd-Fish, and she also co-hosted the 90-Second Newbery with me in Portland one year!). Here we are now and like 10 years ago:

Among other people I ran into Jess Janisse, who is a librarian, but when I met her it was also about ten years ago, when she sent me her amazing reproduction of the The Order of Odd-Fish hardback cover!
And I ran into many other old friends too. It’s always a great time at ALA!
